Kansas City Multi Family Development
As a contemporary multi-family development targeting young professionals, this project sought to create space and an aesthetic that is energetic and engaging for the end user. Each unit, as part of a larger multi parcel urban development, has an open, light filled interior and several defined and functional outdoor spaces for the occupant. The interior functional space includes a full guest bathroom, open kitchen /diving/living area, a spiral stair as an architectural focal point, a laundry and storage area, two bedrooms with the Master bedroom having its own full bathroom. The exterior function space includes covered outdoor parking for two vehicles, usable yard space, outdoor storage, a usable covered front porch and a roof top deck.
With the young professional as the target market for these units, holistic sustainability is a strong guiding principle in the design. Using LEED, Passive Haus and Building Science design strategies, the holistic sustainable principles that have been developed within the site and residence design provide energy and water efficiency, reduced construction waste through prefabrication, nontoxic materials, universal accessibility, positive and engaged social interaction among neighbors and a connection to the surrounding community both visually and physically.
