An Absurd Amount of Words to Say, “Hey! What’s Up?”

Just saying “welcome to Urban Green Design Ltd.’s blog” is kind of boring, so I have been wracking my brain to come up with a better way to say it, and then I realized I was on the wrong track.  I don’t want this to be a place where people come to read what we have to say and then leave; I want to build a community of ideas and dialogue based on the principles of holistic sustainability.  So, welcome to your blog and here is our absurd amount of words to say “what’s up!”

The sustainable design community is growing, and in an attempt to be a forward-thinking member of it, we want to use this space to engage in collaborative, thought-provoking discussion. We aim to host an open conversation with a multitude of viewpoints that helps encourage growth and education, fostering not only a deeper personal appreciation on the topic, but also a stronger, more inclusive community and support system.

This is where you come in!

It is our hope that this blog provides an accessible platform for that conversation where all feel welcome to contribute and discuss.

Through the years, the integration between design and sustainability has strengthened, and “green architecture” is reaching a wider audience than ever before. Sustainable building technologies are being viewed as less of a trend and more as a pragmatic approach to accommodate new growth in an efficient way. As more people begin to recognize the lasting and positive impact of holistic sustainability, it becomes all the more important to have an open forum to host questions and discussion from those of all experience levels.  This might entail reviewing construction techniques, discussing various sustainable design philosophies, or sharing in-depth research and analysis.

As you join us on this journey, we hope you will find an exploration of architecture, both the high end and the vernacular, innovative products and materials, the day’s news from the design and construction industries, project process and progress, building science, and maybe even some things completely unrelated to design or architecture….we need to keep you on your toes somehow.

So why do we think we know so much about this?

Urban Green Design Ltd. is a Cincinnati-based full service architecture and design firm focused on integrated design. We put holistic sustainability at the core of our approach in order to provide our clients with solutions that accommodate their unique ecological, economical, and social needs alongside personal design requests. Whether we are developing a design for a barely-there budget, a site that doesn’t initially seem to have a solution, or a historic building that needs a little TLC, we have always jumped right in to explore the unique needs of each project.  And in the process, we have developed a broad base of experience that we want to share.

As with any social community, fostering a sense of purpose and ownership is important to us. By bringing in multiple viewpoints, experiences, and ideas, we can all take part in this effect and nourish the network that impacts us all. Whether you’re LEED accredited, know the ins and outs of Passive Haus, or are a homeowner who has just learned about rain barrels, your questions and comments are always welcomed. We hope to create a space in which you feel comfortable contributing to the discussion at hand, either by commenting here or emailing us at any time. As this blog grows and takes on a shape of its own, please send in any questions or suggestions for future posts that you’d like to see us discuss.

Thanks for reading this long-winded soliloquy; we will try to keep it more concise in the future…but no promises.  We’re excited that you’re here to join us, and hope to hear from you!
